If you have recently lost someone you love

Allow yourself time and space to grieve, and remember to reach out to friends and family for support.

  • Offer your support and offer to help with practical tasks such as organizing a funeral or helping with children.
  • Offer to listen and share in the person's pain and grief. Let them talk about what they are feeling and show that you are truly listening.
  • Offer to come and spend time with the person.
  • Let them know that they have people around who are willing to help.
  • Suggest that the person seek support and comfort from a religious leader or spiritual mentor.
  • Suggest bringing food or spending time in prayer with the person.
  • Remember that prayer can be very comforting in a difficult time, and you can offer to spend time in prayer with them.
